Sometimes I just want to give up and quit....

I never get too personal with my blog, but I want to work some things out that are floating loosely in my mind and here is the best place to accomplish that.  As the title states, sometimes I want to give up on music and all things creative.  I feel like my support group shrinks daily and it is not as fun as it used to be.  Granted, I am a self-proclaimed "loner" but it would be nice to feel the love.  This is not geared to anyone or any situation in particular, just the way it is at the moment.  I have forgotten why I do this in the first place to be honest... why am I seeking approval?  I am supposed to be doing this for me and as a sidenote, it is wonderful if others enjoy it as well.  Perhaps, I am gearing my style too much for artists to record?  I do not know or understand why I feel this way.  However, it is not all gloom and doom, I do have a remedy for these sour feelings.... time to get back to my "Dilla Grind", meaning I need to start creating more and for my personal enjoyment.  Seems like people cared more for Dilla after he passed then while he was alive.  Maybe I will never recieve that superstar love, but it is not about that, it is about the ART.  And art is what I live for... art is what I do... art is who I am and who I will always be...

UNCANNY ART... SOUNDSCAPES PROMO

BATMAN AND ROBIN #1

simply put this was an excellent read, Grant Morrison told a wonderful story which lead right into the second issue(which I will be discussing later in a future blog post).  From the opening chase scene, in the new redesigned Batmobile(one that can fly... awesomeness)... to the interaction between the new Batman(Dick Grayson) and the new Robin(Damian Wayne) to the introduction of some new villains is pure greatness.  I was never really a big fan of Grant Morrison, I thought dude was a bit overrated, but he does a fantastic job here...

Now to the artwork of Frank Quitely, to be honest I was not familiar with dude at all, but then I saw some samples of his work and was unimpressed... however, dude kills it here. His work is very clean and crisp.  He does a great job of drawing expressions on characters' faces and his environments are wonderfully planned and executed ...

Great comic all around... if you were ever interested in comics... this is a great place to pick up at... this particular comic has been out for a few months now, but I will alert the masses when this TPB(trade paperback)drops...

Wonderful Tunes Vol 1 Review...

*A good friend of mind took the time to write a wonderful(pun intended) review of a recently released beat tape, check it out..*

Yo man, I know it's been a long minute since you released Wonderful Tunes, but it hasn't been til now that I've really sat down with it, and I wanna let you know how I feel about it.

Firstly I wanna say I think your chopping, and sampling as a whole, has reached a new level. I can tell that you're hearing things in the samples that you would not have heard a year ago (e.g. Fly, Soothing Souls, Epic). And there's solid cohesion in your sampling...it doesn't sound like you just found a couple "clean" sections of a song and slapped them together. Each chop is a compliment to the chop before/after it, and they work together to form what could stand on its own as an original composition. But at the same time I can tell they're not simple loops...you've worked hard to find suitable chops that sound and fit nicely next to each other. You've found a balance...the average listener might not notice how many chops one of your beats is composed of because they're smooth transitions, but the trained ear can decipher how much chopping has gone into them. It's the best of both worlds.

Next point I wanna make is that, I know that at the end of the day you just wanna make soulful music, but at the same time, you construct your tracks to leave room for vocals. I guess that's where there's sometimes been something missing for me when I listen to your projects, because I know a solid rhyme can completely change the sound of a beat when executed right......but I'm not a rapper so I can't always hear it past the exceptional execution of your sampling. I need vocals to feel a complete experience. But a lot of the tracks on WT1 can, and do, easily stand alone. I'll name my favorite tracks: ooooh baby, sing it, fly, pain, feels good, (I like how you put pain and feels good back-to-back btw, haha) soothing souls, epic. And these are my favorite because they can take me somewhere on their own, no vocals necessary. I can give them my own meaning without the help of someone else, and I can experience more than just "yo, that's a crazy flip" or "that was a clean chop." It's become more than simply listening for execution..there's an independently living body that I can really experience and apply to my own interpretation (while at the same time being "directed" by it in a particular direction).

I also wanna commend you for taking on the challenge of re-flipping songs that have already been flipped by one of the best "flippers" there are in 9th. I can't really get with I Can't Believe simply because it sounds too much like Lovin' It....but other than that, there's no 9th influence/"biting" whatsoever in this project. And it can be a really difficult task because when you're trying to sample a song you've already heard flipped a certain way, it's hard not to hear how it was used, and it becomes difficult to break away from it (at least for me). So...job well done. If I didn't read the concept behind the album in your blog, I would have never known...which is a good thing.

Last thing I wanna say, for now, is...Soothing Souls came waaaaaaay outta left field. But man is it a beautiful song..makes me wanna put on some flip flops and take a walk in the sand at sunset with the girlfriend I never see, hahaha. Closing the album with Soothing Souls and Epic was a GREAT touch....actually, when I first heard Soothing Souls I thought to myself, "why wasn't THIS the last track???" But then Epic came up and I understood why.

I need this in my life...

This is my next instrumental project, and this release will feature instrumentals with Michael Jackson(or Jackson 5) samples. I have always planned on doing a sampled-themed beat-tape with all instrumentals containing samples from one particular artist. Since Mike has such a huge catalog of music that I want to explore, this is only the first album. Most of these samples are pre "king of pop" days and are more from the motown years. Like previous releases before this will be available via FREE download... and it will be released SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2009. This quote reeks of awesomeness and pours out feelings of positive thinking. "Fear less, hope more" is something we should all do. We need not fear as much and hope can get you through the darkest of hours. "Eat less, chew more" is crazy but very true. So many of us over indulge with food, but since we do not chew properly that cause problems with out digestive system... wild, but fact. "Whine less, breath more" is wonderfully expressed, stop complaining and just relax, enough said. "Talk less, say more" is great, so many of us just merely talk without saying anything. And the last part about "Love more" is so true. We all could use more love in our lives and I do not mean boyfriend/girlfriend stuff. We just need to love more, period, take time to love the simple things in life... like a sunrise, a bird chirping in the morning, a lizard clinging to wall... all these instances are amazing in themselves...

Uncanny Thoughts-Untitled...

It is funny how people always complain about their situation, they never seem to find anything positive. So many of us would rather complain than accept...

Why is that?

an answer I don't believe anyone really knows...

it has been described to me that it is human nature, not sure if I totally accept that. I think if we all just took the time to realize all that we have instead of focusing negative energy on all that we lack, we would be much better off. Easier said than done, yes I know...

Everyone likes to be spoiled yet we dislike to see others being spoiled rotten...

Life is not fair, of course this is true... but does that give one the right to condemn others that are in a more favorable position...

Perhaps, some see things in a different light... such as when a person that values little possesses many items that are very valuable or when one feels like they have sacrificed a great deal only to feel like it was useless when others take advantage for their own personal gain...

maybe this whole rant is the problem... the intention was to shed light on those that abuse others for personal gain, however it has deteriorated into an enormous complaint...

perhaps it truly is human nature...

The NBA Finals are set....

It will not be the popular pick of the Lakers vs. the Cavs(I too was looking forward to Lebron vs Kobe), it will also not be my personal 2nd choice of Denver vs Cleveland(Lebron vs Melo anyone?). It will be the Magic vs the Lakers, in a series that I believe will be fantastic regardless. I am interested to see if the Lakers and Phil can find a way to stop or even slow down Dwight Howard. Something I really don't see happening to be honest. We all know there is really no way to stop Kobe, they threatened to lock dude up on rape charges and he still murdered cats on the court. Will the Lakers be able to shut down the three point shooting of the Magic, they have waaaaay too many guys on that squad that are capable of hitting that shot? Yes, the Lakers have their share of 3 point bombers, however those guys are far less consistent than the Magic players. I really wonder if, Pau Gasol will be a factor in this series and the reason I question that is because he CAN NOT guard Howard, but Howard is the defensive player of the year and made Big Z from the Cavs absolutely useless.

I have seen a few predictions... and I am shocked to see so many people not giving the Magic a chance. Listen, I did the same thing.. I thought that even without KG, the Celts would win.... I thought that even though the Cavs lost the 1st game they would still dominate the series... WRONG!!!! hahaha

The Orlando Magic are a better team than I had believed and they have earned my respect and admiration. Don't get me wrong, we all know the Lakers are probably the most talented team in the L from 1-12... however with all that damn talent, they lack the focus, drive and heart... during short periods(maybe a 5 min stretch in a game, maybe a quarter, maybe a half, maybe a game)...

So, how do I see the series going? I really do not have a clue. I really don't see it going to 7... I see this wrapping up in 6. Not actually gonna pick a winner though, but I will say this if the Lakers take care of business and win the first 2 at home, I see them taking 1 of the middle 3 in Orlando and winning the title in LA in game 6...

Now, if the Magic are gonna do it... it will happen 1 of 2 ways... They will drop the first 2 then win 4 straight by winning it all in LA or gain a split in LA in the first 2, drop 1 of the middle 3 in Orlando and pull out an amazing game 6 win in LA...

Then in again, I could be totally wrong and it could be a sweep or a 7 game series...
